Visualizations and Data Products

Migratory journeys and more revealed

Discover when a species migrates, where they go, and where and when are they most common with these mesmerizing abundance animations. These state-of-the art visualizations highlight annual changes in abundance patterns that improve our understanding of bird biology and migration ecology, and guide conservation actions.

Bird abundance—mapped

State-of-the-art statistical models join forces with eBird data to visualize seasonal abundance to help decision-makers prioritize management and conservation actions, and to help you find more birds to power your birding year-round.

Range maps

Meet the new and improved range map based on analytical results powered by eBird sightings to give you more precise information on species distribution. Discover just how far north or south, or east or west a species is expected to occur.

Habitat regional charts indicate what habitat types species in the Western Hemisphere use where they occur for every week of the year. Habitat regional charts can inform conservation by identifying habitat types that are important throughout a bird's annual cycle.

Get the numbers for your state or region

Get relative abundance or the percentage of an area occupied by a species with the abundance and range tables. The tables include estimates to help decision-makers prioritize management and conservation efforts and gain a better understanding of seasonal use of states or regions. Birders can also use these tables to learn how long a species is present in their state or region.

Download the Data Products

eBird Status and Trends Data Products include estimates of species ranges, abundances, and environmental associations. The Data Products behind the visualizations are made publicly available six months after the visualizations are updated on the website (note: this creates a six month mismatch). The data products are available through an access request form and can be downloaded using an R package. To request access to the Data Products, download regional range and abundance tables or spatial range map data for the latest results, follow the link below.

ShorebirdViz

The Cornell Lab of Ornithology teamed up with multiple non-profit organizations, international shorebird collaboratives, biologists, and agencies to create ShorebirdViz—an interactive tool that combines observations of shorebirds in eBird with state-of-the art statistical models and machine learning to produce relative abundance estimates and estimates of population size across the Western Hemisphere.
